What Did You Expect?

The first sign of madness, I’m reliably informed, is the expectation that repeating the same behavior will eventually create different results.

Today, far too many business owners are talking about change but acting the same.

They focus on two things. Cutting costs. And having conversations. With anyone about anything.

If you want a different outcome, you have to act differently.

Not talk. Act.

Otherwise you already know what’s next.

A smaller version of what you had before.

And as a growing number of business owners can attest, there is nothing smaller than nothing.

Very good, CD. I'm trying to gauge the level of change. That is, I have put in place some change already and I'm hoping that we will reap the rewards. What I don't want to do is dramatically change our core business overnight for obvious reasons but I do want to re-shape the company so that it is relevant in this market. You are absolutely right; in the last three or four months I've heard nothing but conversations about the state of the industry and getting involved in the new opportunities. They've been interesting but after a while you need some substance. That's what I thought was so refreshing about the CaT conference

I thought CaT was amazing as well. So much energy, enthusiasm and so many ideas. Change is the best kind of infection, provided, as you point out so rightly, it is measured and managed towards a purpose.

Getting that balance right depends so much on knowing what you're trying to build. With that in place, everything else becomes clearer, I think.
